To Celebrate World Rivers Day, HW Peduli and the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) Organize a River Cleanup Action

8 September, 2023

Jakarta, September 8 2023 – Through its social program HW Peduli, HW Group has shown its concern for the community by organizing a clean-up action around the Headquarters of the Indonesian Navy (Mabes AL) in North Jakarta on Tuesday, September 5th.

In this activity, HW Peduli collaborated with the Maritime Potential Office of the Indonesian Navy (Dispotmar TNI AL) in anticipation of the 78th Anniversary of the Indonesian Navy in 2023.

HW Peduli, together with Dispotmar, involved residents, students from SMK Hangtuah, SMA 72, the National Maritime Academy of Jakarta Raya (AMAN JAYA), and dozens of sanitation personnel from the Kelapa Gading Barat subdistrict. Hundreds of Dispotmar personnel were also part of this clean-up effort.

“As we commemorate World Rivers Day in September, HW Peduli collaborated with Dispotmar Mabes AL to organize a river and stream clean-up activity or ‘Prokasih,’ the Clean River Program,” explained Kharis, a representative of the HW Peduli CSR team.

This clean-up action is in line with HW Peduli’s campaign. It reflects their commitment to raising awareness among the public about preserving the beauty, cleanliness, and sustainability of the ecosystem in rivers and streams, free from pollution.

“This activity aligns with our campaign, ‘Clean Your River, Clean Your Heart,’ which invites the entire community to maintain river cleanliness to prevent various negative impacts, including floods,” he added.

Working together, the HW Peduli team, Dispotmar personnel, residents, and sanitation crews combed the river’s length to collect scattered trash in the Boulevard Bukit Gading Raya area in North Jakarta.

One of the main targets for cleaning was the Bukit Gading Raya (BGR) River, which is one of the causes of flooding in the Kelapa Gading area, often overflowing during heavy rainfall.

The clean-up along this 12-15 meter river started with collecting trash along the riverbanks using brooms, rakes, and plastic bags.

Inside the river, the clean-up was conducted using rubber boats to collect and place the trash into plastic bags, which were then loaded onto sanitation vehicles.

Colonel Marinir Budi Santosa, the Sub-Director of Service for the Indonesian Navy Maritime Potential Office (Kasubdis Bakti TNI AL Dispotmaral), expressed that collaboration with HW Group through HW Peduli should continue so that the surrounding community can continuously feel the results of their work.

“The Prokasih program is very positive in raising public awareness about environmental concerns, especially in maintaining the cleanliness of water bodies and rivers. The spirit of the participants in cleaning the GDR River should be followed by consistently creating a healthy and clean environment,” explained Colonel Marinir Budi Santosa, Kasubdis Bakti TNI AL Dispotmaral.

“This collaboration must also continue to be promoted so that the work results can be optimal and can be felt by the community,” he continued.

The Prokasih program was conducted at 78 locations across Indonesia in their respective regions. HW Peduli and Dispotmar hope that this action can address the issue of river waste and pollution control, especially plastic waste.

“Let us together do good, starting with maintaining river cleanliness so that our hearts stay clean,” concluded Kharis.

HW Cares will also continue its sharing activities in the future. For more information about HW Cares, access their website at www.hwgroup.id or their Instagram account @hwpeduli.
